how do I replace forward control arms for 1993 BMW 740il
Answers: 1 Views: 639 Rating: 0 Posted: 11 years ago

You need a good floor jack first of all and two jack stands. Read all of this before you begin. As far as I know the procedures the same for all cars

To start with place something behind both back wheels like a big rock or a block of wood to keep the car from possibly rolling backwards while the front end is jacked up.Loosen the lug nuts on both front tires and jack the front end up. Its best to position  your floor jack in the center of the cross member. This is a strong balanced place and it wont bend from the weight of the car ,AND you have both side of your front end up at once . Once the car is up in the air and firmly supported on jack stands, remove the lug bolts and pull the wheels off. Look at the backside of the rotor/hub assembly and locate the sway bar drop links that attach to the control arm. (Yeah Im all woman with long nails and high heels just a bit unconventional and like to work on cars  sorry just felt the need to throw that in.)  In order to remove these, you will need to jack up the control arm assembly to as near as ride height as possible. Place a jack under the control arm and jack the control arm up, then remove the nut that secures the drop link to the control arm. Now lower the jack. As you lower the jack, the drop link will pullout of the control arm. Repeat this procedure for the other side.

Now locate the outer control arm ball joint. This is the joint that secures the control arm to the rotor/hub assembly. You may have to turn the wheels inward to access it. Locate the nut that holds the tapered ball joint in place, then remove the nut using a breaker bar or open-end wrench. Once free, tap the top of the control arm with a rubber mallet to free the control arm from the rotor/hub assembly. Be prepared for the strut assembly to expand slightly once free. This is normal.

Look at where the control arm mounts nearest the rear of the car. You will see a large rubber bushing housed in a bracket bolted to the chassis. Remove the two bolts holding this bracket to the car. The control arm will now be only connected to the car by the inner ball joint.

you now need to remove the inner ball joint, which will free the old control arm from the car. Look inside the engine compartment, on both sides, you will see the nut that secures this joint to the car. Remove both nuts from inside the engine compartment and use the rubber mallet to free the control arm from the car.

Now that both control arms are now free, it is necessary to remove the bracket containing the rubber bushing from the ends of each control arm. We will need to transfer these to the new control arms. Keep in mind that these rubber bushings are a very tight fit on the ends of the control arms. Therefore, it is necessary to use a two or three jaw puller to remove them from the control arm. Coat the ends of the control arm with grease to help slide the bushing off. It may also be helpful to center punch the end of the control arm. This will help you to seat the puller on the end of the shaft. Now, use the puller to remove the bushing/bracket.

Once off, take the bracket over to the new control arm. BMW has a special, kerosene-based lubricant that is used to help install the bushing. This grease dries out after 30 minutes, essentially gluing the bushing in place. Make a mental note of the position on the old control arms as to how the bushings are mounted. This will save you headaches when you go to put the bushings on and you realize it’s on backward or the left bracket is on the right control arm.

The new control arms are shipped with new ball joints already pre-installed, so we do not have to re-use the outer ball joint from the old control arm. Once you have the mounting bushings installed on the end of the new control arm, take it back to the car and line the control arm up to roughly it’s installed position and press the inner ball joint tapered threads up through the sub frame mounting point. You may find you need to hold it in place with a jack. This will seat the tapered threads and help stop the ball joint from spinning once you thread the nut on. So, install a new self-locking nut on the threads and torque the nut to 62 ft./lbs. Repeat this for the other side as well.

It’s important to always use new self-locking nuts anytime you work on suspension components. The plastic liners inside the nuts provide a locking surface for the threads. Anytime you remove one of these nuts, it renders these plastic liners are destroyed, effectively reducing the effectiveness of the nut to tighten.

Now line up the outer ball joint with it’s respective hole in the rotor/hub assembly and use the jack to again seat the tapered fitting. Once secured with the jack, install a new self-locking nut and torque it to 48 ft./lbs. Repeat this for both sides of the car.

Take the rear rubber bracket/bushing mount and secure it to the car using the two bolts. Loosely thread both in before you start to torque them. Once both are in, torque them both to 34 ft./lbs.

Now place the jack under the new control arm assembly. you will need to jack up the arm so that the suspension drop link will slide into its mounting point. As you jack up the arm, guide the drop link so it fit’s into the mounting point on the control arm. Once installed, thread a new self-locking nut onto the bolt and torque it to 31 ft./lbs. Repeat this for both sides. Re-mount the front wheels and snug up the lug bolts.

Phew! I've got typer's cramp

what is the best way in your opinion to comfort a woman?
Answers: 5 Views: 1306 Rating: 0 Posted: 11 years ago

Heres a start to a long list of answers.

We are complicated creatures,, Most of us require physical contact ,sexually , emotionally etc. The way you touch us tells us your perception of where you stand with us. Contrary to what most men believe , we aren’t coming to you for the answer .If we do we will say “ What am I suppose to do” ? or “ I don’t know how I’m ………” that’s a clue we are searching for a solution . for the most part everything else is emotional support.
Read our body language it really tells you what to do.
If we sit down put our heads down or in our hands by you ,in front of you ,next to you don't stand over us. SIT NEXT or BYt us. It also usually means we want to be held or hugged or in need of some physical attention. But because we are complicated I suggest putting one hand on a shoulder in a loving way (if she doesnt flinch away proceed) at the same moment ask her " are you ok?" or "anything I can do? ". This tells her that you are paying attention and her concerns are yours, and that she’s not alone in this. She doesn’t need to be crying to want you to hold her. We sometimes just want you to wrap your arms around us for a few minutes because it feels safe and comfortable and for me, makes me feel like there’s stability even if its only for a minute in my unstable day.
If she is standing, it’s a little harder to read. But.. if she hasn’t come close to you (and theres no obstacles in the way or your doing something) ask the same question while extending one or both hands out a little as to say “Need a hug?” or I’m here for you . and please it looks silly if your standing there with your head tilted to one side and both arms are straight out with your fingers wiggling like we are 2 years old is not .(that may work when we’re mad to cheer us up though )
If she keeps her distance or turns around don’t take it personal. Like men we also require some space when we are upset.. But ASK HER “ you need some space or you need a few minutes? If she says yes then let her know you are there if she needs you .
DO NOT I repeat DO NOT play devils advocate or argue the other side. That side is was has us pissed off to start with. You don’t have to agree with us but knowing you understand we see things differently
Helps us get through it. You don’t have to justify our perspective just validate it.

Of course if she comes in or you come in and she starts to rant and rave ,,, STEP BACK... and let her vent . Dont walk away she just wants someone to listen to her. Everyone needs to vent . Its not always aimed at you so just be a sounding board and usually she will calm down and even rationalize the situation, come up with her own answers and then be fine.

How do I upload pictures from my Samsung Galaxy S 2 to my laptop, please?
Answers: 1 Views: 486 Rating: 0 Posted: 11 years ago

There's really a few easy ways to transfer or (get) pictures to another devise .

1. Best and fastest way to get pictures, videos, documents etc. id to download Drop Box to your computer and your devise.Set up your free account ( use the gmail account used for your devise for both your computer and your devise) and your pictures will automatically sink from your phone to Drop Box. .I love this because every picture you take on your devise will go directly to your DropBox. then when you are on your computer just open your Drop Box and they are there. You can save them to your computer if you want but they will stay there and not take up any computer space , and as long as a computer or devise downloads the Drop Box app. you only have to sign in to access your pictures.

2. Some devices you will have to "mount" your SD card .To do this go to Settings, applications , Development, and check the boxes for USB debugging and Allow mock locations.Plug your device into your computer your devise should ask you if you want to connect to your devise via USB , some ask if you want to just charge your devise or share /transfer files . check the one to transfer ,connect via USB . Your computer may have windows that pop up that prompt you to sink your device (DONT DO THIS) It will transfer everything and if you already have some pictures on your phone it will download them again .Its quicker and easier to just click out of the pop ups unless one says downloading new devise or new devise recognized. If that happens follow the set up to download the driver for your devise. Once your computer tells you its ready to use double check that your devise is recognized by your computer. You can check by clicking on the Start, then My Computer . You should see a list of things on your computer one of them will be your C drive, D drive maybe an E drive and then it should list it as a removable devise. Once you know its there click out of everything. you are ready to start .

Go to whatever file (My Pictures, My music, My videos etc. .) you want to transfer. Left click on the file and all the pictures , songs , videos will be there to choose from . Now from here you can do one at a time or as many as you want . To do one at a time , right click on it (don't open it ) from the menu that will appear left click on " Send To " and from that menu, left click on your devise (Samsung, Android, LG etc.) and it will send it to your devise.

To do multiple items, hold down the Ctrl button as you right click on each item to highlight them. ( If they are bunched together you can hold the left click and drag it over the group to highlight them). then right click and choose the "Send To" then click on your devise , and they will all be transferred.

2. If your devise has internet then sometimes its easier to send the pictures to your own email address, and then check your email with your devise and save them (usually by long pressing and then pressing save to SD card.
