Although I could be wrong, every one of the older Chevy diesels I ever drove handled like a pedal-driven paddle boat headed into the wind...I wasn't impressed at all. I had always attributed the sluggish nature of them to the engine...very slow responding.
It wouldn't surprise me, if the slow responding nature of them, would prohibit doing anything with the transmission.

You should at least explain to this person what the hardship or situation their unreliable nature caused you! I would also explain to them, that most people believe that if a person's word is no good...that person is often seen as being no good either. Think about...what good do empty promises do for anyone?
