OMG we ticked off the Violent Femmes when they discovered a Canadian band was getting more cash than they...we teased them incessantly and gave them a pseudo-name that I can't mention here else I'll be banished for political incorrectness!!

It's what mycatsmom said, and the thing is, like everyone else is saying....it is often intentional.

Using the piano as an example: striking together C, E, and G will sound pleasant, as will striking together C, E-flat, and G.
Striking together C, E, and F# does NOT sound nearly so nice. That is an example of discorance.
