-9y - 5 - (y- 3) =
I'm not really sure how to do this, so I'm going to give "y" a value of 7 and work the problem.
-9 ( 7) - 5 - (7 - 3)
-63 - 5 - 4
-72
Now, let's see what get if I work the problem leaving the "y" in the equation.
9y -5 - (y-3) = -10y -5 + 3= -10y -2
(Let's see if that works using the 7)
-10(7) -2 = -70 -2 = -72 YES! We did it!
Simplified, it's: -10(y) -2

Bob you are the Queen!
:) I got a D- in algebra; it's really a challenge for me to stumble through this stuff, but I love to try!
