Mencken was not Jewish.He was often mistaken as being Jewish. If his mother was Jewish, he would be Jewish according to Jewish law. Furthermore, his father had a "Sr." at the end of his name, uncommon in Judaism (not that it really matters, again,because the mother determines the child's religion)
