    I think anyone who has been around long enough will tell you that most clothing styles, hair styles etc, are mostly just fad's. All you have to do is look at pictures from the 60's, 70's, 80's, etc. you will see how goofy people seem to look with the styles that were popular.

    The funny thing is at the time you just looked like most people, it just looked normal at the time. Try pulling off a mullet now a days, you would have to be in a band for it to even be considered relatively cool.

    It's popular clothing like a "zoot suit" worn in the late 40's and early 50's by a few people and wen out of style very quickly.
