      My aunt keeps a bottle of water with a spray pump (like a windex bottle) She sprays the cat whenever it gets in her plants or does something it is not s'posed to do.. It works, sometimes she just says I'm gunna spray you' and the cat jumps to safe area..

        BE firm but gentle. Cats love to climb and jump. That's in their nature. The answer above is a good one. They don't like to be punished. Cats learn fast.
