    when a patient has dementia and does not eat how much time can they survive this way?

    my father inlaw has been diognosed approx 5 years ago is semi conscious and is caredfor by his wife and carers

    As Leeroy states, they will probably put him on IV. My father was in coma for 3 months before he expired. he suffered a stroke, he was totally incoherent. Still they give him IV and they had a feed tube in his belly. When god and nature decide its time, they will let you know so that you may prepare..
    3 to 6 weeks, but most likely they will be given an I.V. to make sure they stay hydrated and get basic nutrients. Sorry to hear about your F.I.L., hope things improve for him... Hope this helps?
