Do not get gas credit cards or department store credit cards. You need major Visa or Mastercard credit cards. Take whatever they offer you for dollar limits and interest rates and make sure you pay them off monthly if possible.
It will take a while to get your credit rating back up but it will be worth all the time and trouble.
