THE REASON I ASKED THE QUESTIONED I HAVED WATCH THE HISTORY CHANNEL ON FOXTEL AND IT WAS MENTIONED THE SIGHTINGS AND SINKING OF JAPANESE SUBS NOT FAR FROM THE ENTRANCE TO PEARL HARBOUR THE DAY BEFORE THE ATTACK. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT WHAT IS TELEVISED IN OTHER COUNTRIES MAY NOT BE SHOWN OR MENTIONED IN THE UNITED STATES.

I've seen that one before, here in the U.S., I don't believe that the us would have let such devastation happen if they were sure it was coming. I'm sure they suspected it though. Although with the government, you never really know what they're up to...
I think Expert has the best and most researched answer.

No, this is not true, we are aware of the two man subs that washed ashore. There was one that was fired on and sunk, the retrieved this one just lately, it has a nice clean hole right in the conning tower. This whole scene was not talked about and the ships records/logs did not show any conflict with a submarine, ironically several crew members came forth and swore it happened and he even had a picture of it but his camera was confiscated. Going on these old timers recollection as where it happened, they did find the sub and it still had the skeletons of its crew members inside. This was not shown to the public, you could say that this was the first shot fired..

This is a highly debatable subject, some say Roosevelt knew of the attcak, some say that with Germany taking over Europe and the Japanese aggression brewing in the pacific that the American people needed a wake up call. During that time and the time leading upto it; Americans were not paying attention to what was happening around us. so the theory is that Roosevelt allowed this attack to happen knowing this would piss off the people and they would come together and prepare for what was sure to come.

There were several miscalculations, one was the newness of the radar, and the confusion of several B-17's arriving from the states on that Sunday morning. The fact that two major aircraft carriers left pearl harbor and one of them was not yet prepared to go to sea. They left in a big hurry to go nowhere..

There were countless arrests of Japanese 'spies' on the island, nobody had put these coincidences together until years after the war.

i too have my doubts, it is possible that perhaps he knew within only a couple of hours prior the actual attack thinking he could do nothing in two hours-- Knowing that command would take several hours for any executive orders to make its way down the military brass pipeline to those carrying out those orders. So.., It's very possible he did know, but didn't have enough time to get the ball rolling. Thanks to the slowness of the Japanese Ambassador that delivered the ultimatum to Roosevelt.
Personally I think FDR knew something was going to happen he just didn't know which it was going to be the Philipines or Pearl Harbor The american people will never know either
I think it was a surprise attack for the whole country.
I believe they were warned that they were going to be attacked but didnt take it seriously and one of the warnings came from China as China was using many spies at the time in Japan and it was Chinas most famous spy that had come across the info and it was passed on to the USA .
