to DIVIDE is to MULTIPLY by the RECIPROCAL.

that means, change the ÷ to x and flip the second fraction:

    6 ÷ 3/8

    = 6 x 8/3

    = 6/1 x 8/3

    = 48 / 3

    = 16

Clu, the 6 in the problem can be written as a fraction:
    6/1 = 6
    6/1 / 3/8 =
always take the reciprocal of the second fraction then multiply.
    6/1 * 8/3 > cross multiply: 6 and 3 share 3
    2/1 * 8/1 = 16

3/8 is the same as 0.375. That is less than 1. 6 divided by 1 is 6. 6 divided by 1/2 would be 12, because 12 halfs is 6. (Just showing you the point ROMOS made about fractions.) A number divided by less than 1 is going to be more than the number.

    6÷3/8 = 6/1 ÷ 3/8 = 1/6 × 3/8 = 3/48 = 16
