When determines a Boat to be a Ship?

Ships are much bigger than boats. Many times, ships are made for ocean sailing, and require large crews to operate. They also have more complex functions, in comparison to boats, for instance, warcraft carriers and means of transportation for many people at once, or for large amounts, or numbers, or cargos. Boats, on the other hand, are made for sailing both lakes and ocean, and for simpler uses than ships, such as fishing and traveling between relatively close, water-seperated locations.
