12.    x  + 7= 11,                                                                                                                  3                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Subtract 7 from ea. side:    x    + 7 =   11    ,          x = 4                                                                                   3    -  7       -7              3                                                                                                                                    x   =  4 x 3      (12)                                    Very hard to format; tried 3 times.                                                                            

x/3 + 7 = 11
(Subtract 7 from each side of the equation; gets the "unknown" by itself)  
x/3 + 7 - 7 =  11 - 7
x/3 = 4
(Multiple both sides of the equation by 3. "cancels" out the division)
x/3 x 3 = 4 x 3
x = 12
