When it happened to my friends i just held down the on/off button on the FRONT of the system for ten seconds. You will hear 3 beeps but that is normal and the system will go into stand by mode.
But if your really concerned you can send it into Sony if you want. But my PS3 is still working fine so at least you have evidence lol.
