    I heard that used coffee-grounds are excellent for fertilizing certain plants,

      Rhododendrons love coffee grounds.  They love acidic soil.  Just ask Carl my front porch Rhodo... he is glorious darling!... and he was on death's door 4 years ago when we bought this house.
