You can find books of cryptograms or offerings in various puzzle magazines. The ones I am familiar with might have a quotation in code ( a could represent s; x could stand for r) . The substitutions are repeated throughout the cryptogram. Your job is to figure out what each letter represents and eventually "rewrite" the quote with the "translation"
Example EXPERIENCE PRLPTMPQAP
P stand for "E" R stands for "X" L stands for "P" and so on.....
