This is not a question CHAIN,seems a rather rude comment to make, what is your point.

Kids and teenagers are saying that now, as yet another new expression, similar to "WHAT?" or "YOU'RE KIDDING!" or "NO WAY!".

The conversation...."Do you know that George is dating Mary now?"    "Shut up?"   "Yeah, I saw them together yesterday".   "Shut up".   "Honestly, I did!"     :)

    (This too shall pass.)

    CHAIN

    thank goodness!! lol

I didn't realize that it had been around that long...maybe it won't pass. :) It sounds awful but they do say a lot worse these days.

No! You shut up! (reminds me of arguing with my brothers)

    Please be quiet............

"" Here eat this and shutup.

    CHAIN

    That looks really heavy food.

ill help to eat that mmmmm chocolate.. sinfully delicious

If i wanted this kind of abuse i go home to my wife...

The proper vernacular and ettiquette is"Be Quiet!"...in fact my children used to think this was a swear word until they began school and my eldest{5 at the time} comes home saying the kids at school are always swearing at each other and when I told her it was OK to tell me what they said, she leaned in real close to my ear and whispered"shut up"...well I nearly fell over laughing!!!

    FISH-O

My chldren have and are growing up with "Shut Up' bieng a swear word as well... My eldest was 16 when she realised that I did not, in fact, have the power of E.S.P. ... It was a good run though!

Thats a phrase used in the Uk by Essex girls and Boys which means, I don't believe it or . really, or well I never did.  ie when they don't believe what you have just said.

Hey! Did I say something wrong again?

    Who said what wrong?

I wasn't shutup! was brought up! with manner!

    ?

    doolittle

    You got me....

rather disrespectable and to the point.

....was a phrase we did not use when my children were growing up.  We didn't use the word "stupid", either.
In spite of what difficulties they are encountering as adults, they still have good manners and respect when speaking  to an elder.

What most mothers and teachers say to children you ask questions which do not make sense :). By the way, sentence means, sense with tenses.. Try them sometime. :).

"you ask" and "who answer" or "who ask" and you answer". I think I will retire for tonight. The kids sentences are getting to me :).

I think its just a slang word or phrase the young folks are using! Words such as these are why there are generation gaps. To the older people (me included) it sounds insulting! I ask my young grandkids about  (odd to me) words to get the meaning before I get pissed!

That is such a vulgar statement to make. Shame on you.

You think that this is vulgar? You should stroll through any shopping mall in my area and you'll hear lots worse. The cursing by young people is atrocious and they don't care where they are nor who is around to hear them...it's seemingly part of their everyday speech...awful!

    No, SPEAK up.  :)
