Sadly nothing ! He can not be compelled to renew the lease by the courts . You can take it to landlords court and tell the judge your story . The only option is for the judge to award you money if you have been treated wrongly . He or she can not order the landlord to renew your lease . Also all the rules are spelled out in the lease and thats the end of it . Its a legal contract and thats it . I am sorry to be giving you the bad news ,I may be wrong but I dont believe so .

If you didn't do any damage, and you weren't noisy at night, and if you paid you rent, then see a lawyer, but he'll probably say , " Why don't you just move ? " Lawyers don't like to take cases unless there's a LOT of money to be made, and if it's fairly straightforward, and not ambiguous.

There are free legal services throughout the US. In California you cannot be evicted by not renewing a lease without cause….such as negligence in paying rent, property destruction or disturbing neighbors. Many people think their rights are non-existent in your situation but the laws are there and you can get free legal help.
