    I agree with Ducka... while in prison you eat what you are served.  What is being served would depend on what country this prison is in.  I have actually looked this up and prison menus don't seem to be something that is a popular subject.  I did read if you are in a country that is primarily Roman Catholic then you are fasting during lent and you know that it's always fish on friday.... and in Ohio they have removed pork from their prison menus.  No pork on the fork for prisoners in Ohio.

    If YOU are in prison, I guess you will eat whatever you are served.  If you are asking on behalf of someone you KNOW, who is in prison, you cannot mail a roast, if that's what you are thinking.

    Depends on who's prisoner you are !!

    You are not forced to eat everything a prison serves...If they do not serve fish of Fridays you can eat a vegetarian meal or two...Everything you want but not the meat.  Do you know how this tradition came about?  Fish was plentiful and a basic diet.  Meat, on the other hand, was less plentiful and saved for special occasions.  So, on Fridays you showed humility to the Lord by eating regular food-not special food.  Over time, I am sure the various Pope's have tweeked this meaning..... Your friend wound up in prison- s/he has more to worry about than meat on Fridays.

    Doo, is that true about Fri. showing humility and all? I didn't know that. Learning every day.

    Yes, that is how it started..I dare say a McDonalds dollar menu burger would be more humble than a nice piece of fish at this day and time.

    If one is too follow his religion tradition then,whether you are in prison or not,then it up to you if your going too eat meat on lent.

    They'll eat you on lent.

    Any time of the year for that matter..

    Inmates can buy packaged meat like beef, chicken,and tuna. I saw inmates eat meat every friday, reguardless of religion, including muslims during ramadan. They will eat during the day, when they were not to eat during the daylight. For the most part, they dont take religion seriously.

    In prison (or jail), you are "free" to eat or not eat whatever questionable concoction is placed before you.

    Exactly! And something tells me, it's hard to tell the difference sometimes. :{

    You're in prison because you did something wrong. You are not there on a holiday, so eat what they serve, you don't deserve anything.

    Friday fish eating was inherited from the pagans orgiastic custom that brought salacity to the Day of Venus (Friday). Friday was "dies veneris" in Latin or the Day of Venus which also meant lovemaking. The Catholic church pretended it was a day of fasting but every pagan new the true meaning. It was part of the absorbtion of pagan customs into the new religion to make the pagans comfortable. The Pope declared recently that fasting meat on Fridays is no longer followed except during lent. Some Catholic pastors don't follow this and the Roman See has had problems with this issue for some years now.
