    what does higher ground mean?

    It's like "Get to Higher Ground", ground that is higher than whats around it. Tarantulas go to high ground when a storm is coming...

    Above the lower ground.

    Apparently, animals too. Though not a storm, there were reports that during the great tsunami in Thailand that no animals perished. There is a theory that they sensed danger and headed for "higher ground".
