Write “All I choose is happiness for me today”, on a simple card that is next to where you sleep. Read that when you awaken in the morning. Another on the refrigerator, Another anywhere you frequently go to. Read it out loud and with every choice you make during your day….choosing happiness is a gift you give yourself and a way of rejecting any activity that is not happy. When you choose to be happy in doing an unpleasant task, the task becomes easier to do and can even be fun. Taking good care of your body is something happy people do because health and feeling fit is part of the result of choosing to be happy. Have a happy day and smile to everyone you see. When others criticize your happy smile or seek to drag you back into their morose doldrums and despair, think of a happy thought and ask them to join you in a happy thing to do like going to an art fair, a lecture on love poems or to an up-beat church or a Saturday night Laugh in….comedy club. The world is full of happy opportunities …..they are the only opportunities worth being part of.

Happier life! I would like that as well, and I've been doing a lot of thinking about what I think would make me happier. In no particular order:
1. taking better care of my home and yard
2. spending time with the dog...playing, going for a walk
3. petting the cat when she sits on my lap and appreciating her purr (I do this already)
4. keeping myself groomed (hair, makeup, clothes....looking nice, feeling better)
5. NOT sitting on my butt when I am home, aka-ing or playing Spider Solitaire
6. working on a project (jewelry, painting, writing, sewing, etc.)
7. exercising....swim, weights, treadmill, bicycle, walk, etc.
8. having a relationship spiritually (this goes into religion, so I'm just going to say that I am happier when my faith is strong)
9. set a timer for whine-time, crying, pity-party (then on to something productive)
10. COUNT MY BLESSINGS (not necessarily number them one-by-one, but really think about what IS good and positive)
11. Since I am "alone", I know I should get involved in activities that will give me opportunities to meet people and establish friendships.
I'm sure there is more. DUCKA had a superb answer for you. jhharlan gave you the secret.
