These are actually fun when you get the hang of it. You want to get the unknown all by itself on one side of the equals sign. You do this by performing the opposite operations to eliminate the knowns. For example, x is being divided by 5. If you MULTIPLY by 5, you will end up with x divided by 5 multiplied by 5, which is simply x. Remember, if you multiply by 5 on one side of the equals sign, you must do the same thing to the other side to keep your equation equal. So:
11 = x/5
11 x 5 = x/5 x 5
55 = x
TEST: Put the answer in place of the unknown: 11 = 55/5 Yep....There's the answer.

My niece was having trouble with these problems. I rewrote the problem, hoping she'll see the equation better.
