Animal shelters should  always be tried first . Then animal rescue , Older dogs need homes as well as owners get older and are no longer able to care for them . Thats a option as well . News pare is a option as well . Those adds are free  so that s where you look . Good Luck .      Bill

sometimes un-intended mixed breeds AKA mutts are free in the paper. The SPCA and Humane Society shy away from the holidays due to the numerous pups that r brought home as gifts and end up homeless when the pups chew on furniture or aren't potty trained.  You could contact animal control and see where they bring rescued puppies.  Most resue grps. charge an amount of $ too keep their shelters running!

Bringing in old sheets, blankets, and towels (cleaned please)..along with certain pet foods or toys is a great way for any animal friendly family to give back this season!
