Liking one another is first and foremost. Respecting that both need their space from time to time, without explanation. My wife does not share the same belief system that I do, which at times angers me, but it's her soul. I know what "I" believe, and what has and will continue to work for me.

good communication. Listen to him/ her when he/ she talks. Don't interrupt. Make eye contact. Answer him/ her when he/ she makes a comment, or asks a question. Don't criticise her / him for everything that you think they're doing wrong.
