Not sure about this but I've heard that sugar will slow the dying process.

I would suggest the most important thing to put in the water would the tree Duh!

Aspirin will help.

I've heard different things but how do you know if they work or not?  My tree dies on Saturday when I expected it to die, when, two days earlier???

Good question.  My husband is fanatical tree water guy every year.  One year I decorated the tree and when I turned on the lights ... we named it "The Brothel Tree"... a lot of H2O was needed that year.

same as a few of the others, Ive heard sugar, then trim the lower needles and spray the trunk with hairspray, no more falling needles.

The tree vendors typically sell your or provide free litle botles with the liquid you add to the water to prevent the tree to loose its needles too soon but it's very important to check and add water every two days. These trees are very thirsty.

Lemonade keeps flowers fresh once cut so you could buy a cheap supermarket bottle and try that for your tree

Sugar and a asprin normally does the trick I know florist put in there water for flowers is asprins and bleach!
