Technically, the steelhead is a rainbow trout that migrates to sea as a juvenile and returns to freshwater as an adult to spawn, a process known as anadromy.

The trout apparently swim out to sea when the rivers become too warm.  On one site it was referred to as the Sun Run.  If you Google trout migration to sea all sorts of sites come up... the many that I found were technical and so, I am not sure if that is what you are looking for.

    Good Luck
