    Why is an electrical outlet called an outlet when you plug things into it? Shouldn't it be called an inlet.

    Because it's an outlet for the electricity.

    Electricity comes  from a socket out let from the fuse board or power supply You plug into it  to get Electricity out"your plug is the "inlet

    because electricity FLOWS OUT OF IT NOT INTO IT.
