One of my favorite authors just died

Anne McCaffrey. She died of a stroke at 85. She wrote over a hundred books, most notably her Pern series - 21 in that series, I think, and I have read them all. She was a Science Fiction/Fantasy writer. Who are your favorite authors?

My eldest son read every one of Roald Dahl's books, repeatedly. I gave him the collection I purchased when he was a kid about a year ago (he's almost 25). He picked out "Danny, the Champion of the World" and told his GF all about the book (a loose biography, isn't it?) he hasn't read is at least 10 years.
IF he ever is drug free and doing well, I hope he will read those books again, with his daughters.

Ann Rule is a favorite of mine, along with Sidney Sheldon, James Patterson, John Grisham, Shakespeare  (love the sonnets),  Shel Silverstein, Beverly Cleary , Dr. Seuss, Mark Twain.......to name a few.
My sincere condolences on your loss.  Even if you never met, losing a favorite author IS a big deal.

I truly hope your son gets well. I do know how you feel... miracles! :)that is where we have to look.
I once asked a favour of Saint Theresa (Not the dead one on display that is for artists and children)(There are two). This Saint Theresa's portfolio is skimpy. The miracle I asked for came to pass within days. I also believed strongly that she would come through and I thank her on a regular basis since my miracle... Look the Saints up. They are happy to help. My Mother believes that they have angels as their side kicks so one can't go wrong.

Thank you MsB - among those you mention I have read Shakespeare, Twain, and Seuss. I was an English major in college and focused on 19th century lit. On my last day of class before graduation I stopped in to pay a visit to my favorite professor. I was bemoaning the fact that there was so much I had not read. Much to my surprise he expressed the same thing. So many books. So little time.

fish girl: I will do that. Thank you!
winfia: English Lit Major..that I would have enjoyed. My sister made a list of the "classics" she wants to read. It's a long list, but she is making her way through it.

I studied 19th century lit in college and have read Tess... Far... Return... I just love novels from that time period.

I am sorry for her death Winfla, some of my favorite authors are John Grisham and I like autobiographies and biographies on people.  I have been reading some on Clarence S. Darrow and find them and his life very interesting.  I would like to read some books on Amelia Earheart also.

I love reading biographies, also. I have not read any Grisham books or any in that genre except one: Atlantis Found by Clive Cussler. OMG - you CANNOT put this book down!!

I've read Twain, Suess, Keroack, Rand, and Atwood. Among those, (I have to say Atwood is my favorite!!) My brother and his wife arrived last night for a 5-day visit. He and I went out to rent a movie and picked Atlas Shrugged. It's been 30 years, I think, since I read this Rand classic. Can't wait to see the movie!
