    Poppy3

mel - I have TU's but I do not feel it is only down to the generation we have bred alone there are so many factors involed here - there are so many influences on children these days and so very much more.
    melandrupert

Benthere thanks for trying anyway oxoxoxox
    melandrupert

dopey I know what your saying and you do have avaled point the problem I see is that parents now a days put far to much importance on there children dont get me wrong children are a gift instead of children being children they make them grow up far to early and buy clothes for girls that look like 16 yrs instead of 10yrs its just all screwed up the whole parenthood thing! oxox
    bulletman

G'day Mel, tell Ben i have done it for him. TU's.
    melandrupert

Ah bulletman thank you so much you really are a sweetheart :-)

Spoiled generation of people whose parents have no respect for anything either.

no it is not just you although their is still loyalty as well as respect it seems harder and harder to find with each new generation. My best guess it's heridatary just like most family values, when their is no more absolutes to follow, kids will fall for anything. I blame parents for not to teaching their children well, with each passing generation social responceability seems to detereate with that you have a generation with less and less value for anything..

I think there is good and bad in all generations really, I know some young people who are very polite and respectfull, and I know others who are little shits. But I also know people of my generation who are nice people, and some who are nasty old bast---s

Loyalty, what loyalty - employees have no loyalty to employers and vice-versa, same goes with politicians. What have you done for me lately is the order of the day.

Respect., what? the law, parents, elders, language, diversity, attire etc. Its not you only - the level of respect is getting lower by the day in all aspects I have mentioned.  It is not uncommon for kids to call their mom - bitch or generally for people to use 4 letter words.

will both L and R come back? not so soon unless dicipline is brought back at schools, homes churches etc. AND that must begin at home.   Values must be taught and expected or we will have 'me only' kids, unhappy parents, no-care attitudes and so on......NOT A PRETTY PICTURE. Two important word must come back to begin with: SORRY. THANk YOU.

    ed shank

    Well said, I totally agree.
    mycatsmom

right , many employess are not there to do a good job....they're just there to pick up their pay-check. To hell with the job.
    bulletman

I'm afraid that greed overshadows any loyalty that may have been there.

This generation of young people are mostly scumbags. They care about nothing except themselves and their comfort level. Most are too stoned to be productive humans. God help us all.

    melandrupert

    How true is that! oxox
    Bob/PKB

You always express my feelings so much better than I. Thank you again.
    dowsa

    second that ED.
    ed shank

So it's not just me. I'm feelin warm and fuzzy. I thought my age was showing again.
    Bob/PKB

Oh, your age is showing, all right, but so is your sage observation.

Just seems like people do not care much anymore about themselves or others, sad to say.

There are many people who do have respect and are loyal, but the ones who don't tend to get the camera and front page.
Respect goes both ways nowadays.  When I was young, it was expected that I would always be respectful of my elders, no matter what.  I even got "the paddle" at school when I was in 7th grade.
Today, students are well-aware of the fact that a teacher can't so much as touch your shoulder to get your attention.  It's all talk now and kids just hear "blahblahblah".  Consequences are minimal and parents intervene; some kids grow up thinking they are untouchable.  That's how it is in the public schools in California.
Entitlement programs and Welfare also give people the false idea that they are special and deserve something for nothing.  Why work when you get it for free.
Those "flower children" of the 60's who let their kids run wild in the 70's and 80's didn't make society any more respectful or loyal.  It's a domino effect and once it starts, it isn't going to stop unless some dominoes the avalanche hasn't reached are pushed out of the line.
That means looking to the future and making the changes NOW.  Anyone???????

Caught a smart ass pissing on my freshly poured concrete walkway many years ago. I grabbed him by the hair, threw his ass in my truck and took him home. After I explained to his father what his son did on my concrete he said I over reacted by pulling his hair and kidnapping him. After I got done beating the old mans ass, I promised them both, next time there will be no courtesy visit. Your wife will be contacting a florist. So much for parents with brains.
    Bob/PKB

.....and where is that fine, upstanding, young man today? If he's not in prison somewhere, he's probably in Congress...
You done good, ed shank, and I've got to ask: Is your wife a saint? I'm kinda thinking she has to be!

Seems as though loyalty and respect are not as highly prized as they used to be at one time. If that is what you seek, then don't lower your standards and keep on searching. It will be well worth your effort. Happy journey!

because their parent (s)  don't teach them respect for others, or respect for their elders. The reason why ---is that their parents don't have any manners either. Social skills and manners are greatly lacking in our society. Most teachers will tell you that. I think a  lot of it has to do with kids being raised by the TV, violent video games and movies. Marx said that if you want to control  a society , then get a- hold of the childrens' mind while they're young.

I don't believe your statement is just or true, but a matter of opinion. If you look back in recent history you will see that each generation says the same basic things about the following group. The current political situation is a perfect example of intense loyality to a philosophy or idea. As far as people are concerned loyality must be either earned, conferred or purchased and respect must be earned and deserved. People deserve respect unless they demonstrate otherwise, but I haven't see where people are any different than they were in the fifties when I came up.

    sunnyB

Yes I agree alot with what you say, I was bought up in the fifties, a teenager in the sixties when you were told that if you kept listening to that loud music you would go deaf, pardon what did you say? I think that we had a bit more respect for our elders and law and order than alot of youngsters nowadays, but we did have our moments.
    mycatsmom

I was a 50s child too. Our parents said if you sit up too close to the TV, you'll ruin your eyesite. My mother used to say, before TV, she read so much, that her father told her if she didn't quit reading, she'd go blind.
    Tommyh

Yep & those tight pants made us all impotent too.LOL
    bulletman

You are joking bigben, there is no comparison between the fifties and the present, the fifties you never spoke at the table unless requested to do so, you certainly never back chatted an adult or teacher unless you loved the cane. If you did get the cane at school, you never told your parents as you would get another dose. There's plenty more., so don't tell me it is like the fifties.
    bigben

Bulletman: You've got to be kidding. Maybe, you're thinking of Leave it to Beaver or Father Knowes Best because your commment doesn't reflect real life. I came up in the fifties and I never heard or saw anyone punished at school with a cane or any other type of corporal punishment. It was the same as it is today, expulsion. And it you think that killings at school are particular to today, look it up and you find that it happened in the past as well. Also, kids did talk back to their parents or do you think that the term, juvenile delinquent, just came into use yesterday?
    bulletman

I don't know what country you are from bigben but what i said certainly happened all through the fifties into the sixties in Australia, Tommy and Peoplelover will back me up as we are all roughly from the same era. i know for a fact about the cane, as i cop it a few times & girls were also caned. In OZ we never ever had killings at school and we certaily don't have shootings and killings in our schools in the 21 century.
    bigben

To Bulletman:Well, the killings in school certainly happened and can be verified with a little reading. And you might have had corporal punishment in America in the 19th and early 20th century, but you definately didn't have it in the 50's, if you did it was rate because people siimply wouldn'put up with it. Another reason that people might think that the current generation is worse is that technology has made the dissemination of information constant which you didn't have in the 59's. The current generation is no better or worse than previous ones; most of what people see as some sort of defiance is simply the adjustment to an entirely different world view and more intense communication. To say the the kids of the 50's were somehow different as far as basic human nature is absurd. Furthermore, as people age they have a tendency to remember thing in their past a lot different than they really were. People don't seem to remember, for example, all the bad things that happened politically or culturely back then, serial killers, child molesters, rapist, bullies, gangsters, wars, and a myriad of other social problems. The people that did these things came from an era of even more rigid upbringing and look at their character.

When things hurt, you are learning a life lesson.  If you choose not to learn it, that lesson will keep rearing it's ugly head.  Think about what you are learning.  Learn it.  Walk away.

Crummy people just stop showing up.

If they do remind yourself of what you have learned and it is gone like dust in the wind.

This is your life...take the trash to the can.

What do you expect if the govt. take away parents rights to disipline their kids, when they do something wrong the parents are at fault,  you can't have your cake and eat it too. I blame mostly the goody two shoes that lobbied and got what they want. the kids of today have no respect ( including girls) for themselves so don't expect to get respect from them, they have to be aware and accountable for thier actions, and be punished appropiately, not a pat on the head. The wierd thing about this is, it's a world wide problem. No matter what the minorities want, the majority must demand to get back to basics, in the home, at school, law enforcement and in the work place.

    melandrupert

    well said bulliteman oxoxox
