Really good answers from Randy Palmer and Benthere. My kids learned their address by singing it to the melody "Frere Jacques". They learned the nicknames for the islands of Hawaii by composing a sentence that incorporated the nicknames in their geographic order.
Acronyms are helpful. You can play games with yourself or with friend(s). Go alphabetically, each person repeating the word(s) that had come previously.
Apple
Apple, Bologna
Apple, Bologna, Camisole
Apple, Bologna, Camisole, Daschund
and so on.......
Puzzles like Sudoku, crossword, word search, jumbles, scrabble/Bananagrams, cryptograms, etc. are great for brain health. My phone has a game called "Brain Age Analyzer" that tests memory. It was a free download.
"Concentration" is a great game and easy to play. Use a deck of cards; shuffle and lay them out on a flat surface in rows. Turn over one card. Turn over another card. If they match, put them out of the game. Continue. The test is to remember where you saw a card when a match is turned up.
