Televised executions for any level drug dealers on first offense. Fry 200 of them and the trade will virtually cease to exist. Users to forfeit all bank accounts and all personal possessions.  How bad do you need to hit the bowl? Enough to lose everything you own?

All crimes affect many, many people.  We are not necessarily aware of all of the repercussions of any crime.  Drug dealers are not locked up for life nor are most rapists, robbers, abusers, murderers, bigamists, and the list goes on.  Why not?....over crowded prisons, unavailable taxpayer dollars, and bleeding heart liberals along with their psychiatrists.

    Watts

CORPUS CHRISTI — A judge on Monday sentenced an admitted Corpus Christi drug dealer to life in prison.

Korban Watts, 23, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, a first-degree felony.

District Judge Tom Greenwell chose the maximum sentence for Watts, who has a criminal history that includes several burglaries and another drug case.

Watts was arrested in September after police used a search warrant at a Gordon Street apartment. He had about $650 in his pocket and more than 100 grams of methamphetamine stashed in various places, including in an oatmeal box in the kitchen pantry, according to police reports.

He said in a written statement that the drugs were his and he usually would get one-fourth of a pound of drugs every two days or as needed.

Court records show he was sentenced in March to four years and three months in federal prison in an unrelated case for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The two terms will run at the same time.

    Execution...hmmmm

Yes, in Singapore he would have been hanged.

I agree.  Drug dealers don't pay taxes on the money that they make.  They cause the system nothing but money and time... every single thing they do costs taxpayers more and more money... the sickness they promote the amount of law enforcement we need to take care of the garbage they create... the innocent lives that are lost because of gang wars... and when they finally are incarcerated well, we have to pay for that as well.

One thing that would make a lot of difference would be if those people who are recreational pot smokers et al stopped ...  it would ease the stress.  They are contributing to the problem even if they don't think they are.

I live in British Columbia and this subject ticks me off.

The so-called "war against drugs" has definitely been a failure!

Once one drug dealer is out for the count another one moves up the ladder to take his or her place.

It would be even better to trace the drug right back to the person(s) responsible for its inception.  Who's in the lab?  Who's in the field.  Eradicate the source and you eradicate everything that trickles down from there, ultimately the drug usage.
EXAMPLE:  Many years ago, we had  a horrible infestation of mosquitoes.  My dad called the pest control company, and the guy who came over identified 7 different kinds of mosquitoes milling about.  He started looking for the nests and ended up about 1/4 mile away at an egg farm.  He came back and said that after he found 4 of the 7 nests at the farm, he didn't really feel the need to look for the rest.  It was kind of "a given".
The mosquito problem was dealt with at the source....the egg farm.

Many drug dealers learned to deal drugs on the streets and have no other way to earn an income. I have taught kids how to get out of the gutter by building and repairing appliances found in the trash. How to earn money is ways like that keeps people out of trouble. It is easier to make more money honestly than any drug dealer ever makes. Drug dealers and hookers earn just enough to barely get by. Welfare actually pays better than drug dealing because the price of dealing drugs is loss of freedom…and freedom is above price. DDs don’t see all the opportunities around them to legally earn a living. They cheat themselves out of the American Dream by beiieving that it is beyond their reach and the only way to get some of that good stuff is by some sleazy way.

The drug dealers in this area drive Porche Cayennes and Escalades... go figure?!

Yes, I have seen their yen for glitz and when you see that recognize the fact that their whole life style of glitz and splash is what they see as the reward of money…empty winnings like that are brief and often tragic for everyone involved.

why only drug dealers, there are child killers, murderers, rapists, thugs and thieves (I mean corporate) where do we stop and how much are we willing to pay to keep these crims in comparative luxury compared to the underprivileged that are mostly ignored by the mainstream

Because they really can't do anything for life, even if they're death depended on it.

    not enough room in prisons.

They should all be executed, no question.

I agree with your passion against the act and it's consequences.

harsh, but may make people think about consequence, smokers here are penalized more here than drug abusers,i.e social isolation,as a smoker I wish the govt. would stand by its so called convictions to make a healthier population and instead of continually raising the price take them off the market, oh dear,on my soap box again!

It is time that drugs were legalised, then the government would be able to generate tax income from sales. Crime would drop, and the revenue would be  used to rehabilitate addicts.

nomdeplume, if we created or assisted more to addicts would it not contribute to the crime rate rather than curb it, how would a total addict hold down a job to pay for the habit, it seems this would just create another cycle (i.e cycle of poverty, abuse etc)
    nomdeplume

There is no reason to believe that if drugs were legalised crime would increase. Many crimes are committed by those stealing to support their habit. Legalise drugs and probably 50% of crime would stop. I don't think many addicts hold down jobs, they are too busy stealing.

All of yall make me sick. You didnt know this man. You didnt know what he was about. U read a story and pass judgment.  Did yall know the only reason he got life is because he wouldnt take anyone else with families down with him. Or did you know the day before he was sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison at 23 years old he lost his only child to a terrible accident and was denied the right to say goodbye to his 2 and 1/2 year old son.  Or that this kid was never given a fair shot at life. He was born in a prison to a heroine addict mother and his family gave him up for adoption to people who never wanted him for show to look good and as soon as he became difficult turned their backs on him. He had nobody in his corner for most of his life. The streets were the only place he ever was accepted. He did what he thought he had to. Was it right no. But to be executed for it? Really? U I know these things because I am the mother of his only baby and I saw his daily struggle. I saw him want more for his life and for our baby. I have a thought u deal with half the things he has or I have and lets watch your mistakes and bad judgement be displayed for the world to see and see who wants to murder you. I am truly disgusted by the responses many of you have left and I pray for your souls. May god have mercy on your judgement day for you will need it.

Thanks, your scold is in line with my thinking also. Our culture makes this and other similar cultural problems. Scorn and hatred for those who can't function in our culture of rules and expected behavior patterns is sure to draw some form of incrimination from those born into tact and confidence. The same can be said of every and any culture of prescribe virtue.

I grew up in the inner city where there were very few choices. Many of my school friends are either dead of in jail for their crimes, which includes drug dealing or worse. Everyone has a choice. Illegal activities are just that ... illegal. And if one gets caught with committing a crime then they should, in fact pay the price of that activity. It isn't as if a drug dealer pays taxes on the money they earn illegally is it? The rest of us certainly do. The tax paying public also pays for taking care of the drug addicts when they need rehabilitation, hospitalization and in man cases, housing/welfare. We also pay for the drug dealer's time spent paying for the crimes they were convicted for.

The next time you tell this story, make sure you don't tell it to any tax paying citizens ... we tend to get a little sick and tired for paying things we don't buy. We are also a little sick and tired of experiencing completely innocent family and friends dying because they just happened to be doing their jobs in the right place at the wrong time. We are also very tired of experiencing unsafe grocery stores, pet stores, shopping malls, health stores, gyms and restaurants because of drug gang wars.

You are correct, I didn't know this man. I have however known many like him. I also grew up without support and with very little in the way of choices. Life is what we make it. It is up to each individual to do with their life as they chose and it is no one else's fault. Life is a journey. If you look closely enough you will find out that everyone has a rough road one way or another. There is no free ride in the department of life.
