He was a hard working young man, leading a gang of 25 shearers all over the district. In the off season he did scrub cutting to make way for the new roads in and around the Hawkes Bay area. He met his wife Margareta Te Hira, to whom they had 12 children. He was a widower at the age of 44. With some many kids to feed, he taught himself to be a mechanic by looking at illustrated books his Great-Grandfather bought back from Germany. He couldn't read or write untill later years. From what i remember of him, he was a very quiet, humble and wise man with a very big heart and love for each and everyone of us. Born 24 April 1906- Died 28th March 1982.
