I like pitbulls and no they should not be banned. Bad owners and idiots who do not take care of them properly should be banned.

It's not the dog it's the owner. I have been attacked by Yorkies three times and a Pitty only once. That dog's name was Cartel so you can imagine what type of person owned it.
Actually I am more afraid of Chows than Pitbulls.... and when I was about 13 I was attacked by a Standard Poodle.
All dogs should be licenced and all owners are responsible.
*(I worked in the pet industry... In case any one was wondering).

We have had dogs from fighting rings brought to us at the ASPCA.... They were the sweetest most affectionate dogs. All they wanted was to be petted and praised. Some we were able to rehabilitate.. Some continued to have dog agressstion... But that is what they were taught.
Not one of 87 we got were people agressive. And saddly they had to be put down because some DB psycopath who should have never owned a dog taught it that other animals were its enemy.
Pits are affectionate loyal and trianable. PPL on the other hand are sometimes lacking in compassion.

I like the fact that dogs need license I believe cats should be license too and the leash law is good when in strange surroundings.
Dogs act on instinct and can attack people or another dog for many reasons, training, oder, sound, etc.
Pit bulls are a one person dog and very protective, that can make them more dangerous than others if not trained to love all.
Like my GS..........lol

I think all dogs should be licensed and insured. License fee deductions for neuter/spayed dogs. Higher license fee for breeder dogs, breed specific dangerous dogs and untrained/undisciplined dogs. Insurance should be required just like auto drivers for all dogs. The insurance industry can press public responsibility.
This brings revenue to the state, reduces dog attacks, provides compensation for injury. Then after all that if your pitbull rips the hand off the mail lady you may not loose your house paying her medical bills or the state have to pay the bill because the dog was uninsured and the dog owner is on welfare.

Never mind, you meant for people who do not own a home.
I hate to spoil this "love fest" for pit bulls but there are far too many stories of pit bulls attacking small, helpless children. A baby, in a stroller, was attacked and had half of her face ripped off. That is only one of many stories, (and yes they are true, with law suits involved). I know that other kinds of dogs have also attacked people but it seems to me that pitt bulls are particularly vicious and then the owners blame the "attacked" making statements such as, "The child must have done something to provoke my lovely, gentle, kind hearted dog." Sorry, I don't buy it.

"Hyped-up media coverage of Pitbull attacks, often with factually inaccurate reporting, adds to the breed's bad reputation and results in public paranoia. But aren't Pitbulls vicious people haters? No more vicious than beagles and golden retrievers! In a study of 122 dog breeds by the American Temperament Testing Society, Pitbulls achieved a passing rate of 83.9%. Beagles scored 78.2% and golden retrievers, 83.2%. If you want to see how other breeds scored, go to the Testing Society's website, ATTS.org."
Pitbulls are not naturally aggressive towards people.
I don't think it's the dogs but the owners. To have a tough viscious dog means you are a tough viscious person seems to be the mentallity of some of these guys that own them.
I do believe the savage ones have been mistreated to make them savage.Don't license the dogs, locense the owners.

What about the families who lost their babies to savage people or a drunk parent. People are more harmful than these dogs are. Any dog can go viscous, not just pits but all you people want to do if fixate on the pits. When you manage to eradicate the pit, you'll go after another breed. You people aren't happy unless you are finding fault with man or beast.
Many myths and misconceptions surround the American Pitbull Terrier, probably more so than any other dog breed. Unfortunately, the Pitbull's future has been irreparably harmed by people who choose to train this naturally affectionate, people-pleasing dog to fight. Hyped-up media coverage of Pitbull attacks, often with factually inaccurate reporting, adds to the breed's bad reputation and results in public paranoia. But aren't Pitbulls vicious people haters? No more vicious than beagles and golden retrievers! In a study of 122 dog breeds by the American Temperament Testing Society, Pitbulls achieved a passing rate of 83.9%. In the ATT test, a dog is put through a series of confrontational situations, and any sign of panic or aggression leads to failure of the test. The high scoring of Pitbulls in this study disproves the widely held believe that this breed is inherently mean and aggressive to people.

I love animals, any breed, they like children, depends how they are trained. Bad people, bad animals. Good Children, good parents, no difference really.

Pit bulls are the most lovable and gentle pets. They are not viscious and will not hurt anybody unless an owner treats them badly. People give them a bad reputation because the press prints and shows all the pit bull attacks just to give them a bad name and sell newspapers. They were not bred to fight or kill, and an owner should never have to pay for insurance to own one. There is just no truth that these are bad animals. They are just like any other dog.

Looking for facts? http://www.dog-bite-law-center.com/pgs/stats.html
Every 40 seconds, someone in the United States seeks medical attention for a dog bite.??There are approximately 800,000 bites per year in the United States that require medical treatment. ?Most of the victims are children, and most of them are bitten on the face.??Almost $165 million is spent treating dog bites and 70% of dog bites occur on the owner's property.
Dog bites result in approximately 44,000 facial injuries each year. This represents between 0.5% and 1.5% of all hospital emergency room visits. Male patients slightly outnumber females. Unfortunately children comprise 60% of the dog bite victims. Severe injuries occur almost exclusively in children less than 10 years of age. The face is the most frequent target (77% of all injures). Mail carriers are an exception where 97% involve the lower extremities. We see an unusual number of dreadful injuries each spring. Severely injured patients stay an average of 4.2 days in the hospital. Dog bites cause an average of 18 deaths a year.

My last response about this subject is the typical response representing a naive irrational pitbull owner. They dont realize the potential legal problems owning a pitbull. Too many children have been attacked and hurt by this breed of animal. The only people that benefit from this kind of situation are lawyers. They sue the owners for everything they own and will own in their future. Right on ducka.

But this is a free nation. if people want to take chances with such an animal, they have the right to. Just like i have the right to sue you for everything you own and portion in your future if your pit bull attacks me and damages me. In a court pitbulls never win. Its not worth it. Dont say it wont happen to you.

Here is a good summary. If the army air force , and marines ban them on bases , well you can realize the potential. The comparison between auto manufacturing and pit bulls is another thought. Very good article. Only the more conscious people do not own these kind of animals.

They sound like wimps to me. Big brave marines afraid of dogs? Now the enemy knows, just get all those dogs and the Marines won't advance on them.
