Religion helped me to be a better mother to my son.

Not much bible wise but faith has seen me through some pretty rotten times.  God’s will be done and all that……..

Nothing bloody much except keep them under the thumb I would say.

Brilliant Brilliant Tommy - you got it in one.
I do not need to enumerate all the ways.

It is the opiate of men AND women.

    ""

It has made me very quiet, submissive and obedient. I never give an opinion and like to remain in the background during all social events. I bow to men and know that they are correct in every situation. I would never go against the advice of a man as I have learned that they are superior to women in every way.

    Other than that, not much!

Well, I'm only taking a small break. I just finished the dishes and now I must dust, vacuum and prepare supper. While supper cooks, I'll mend some socks, sew some buttons, cut out the pattern for a homemade shirt and then, finish my hook rug. I'll do it all very quietly. I hope my telephone doesn't ring...no time to talk!
    digger

...while you're up, can you fetch me a beer ?

First, finish the one you have in your hand!

    Greetings Poppy;

Every person is his or her own 'person' according to the path of human kind.  We take what we need and grow as we should, or not.

"What is in it for me?", is a concept.

Human beings should learn from history.  Unfortunately, we tend to be slow learners.

Thank you. Please think about it. I appreciate the feed back. :)

There are many strong, influential, and resourceful women who made a huge difference in history, specifically Bible history, which you are as free to disregard as I am to believe.

My faith gives me a "standard" for my behavior, a sense of right and wrong, whether I attain that standard or not.

It gives me hope, security, humility, and comfort.

It makes a lot of them put a black bag over thier head,

    mycatsmom

that's Islam .There was a woman the other day in our mall with full muslim dress. Had on a black skirt, black poncho, black veil like hood over her head; and the most outstanding feature was a black mask with only a slit for her eyes. And it was 87 deg F.out. The funny thing was , her child, a boy, was wearing traditional American attire
    Poppy3

hector5559 - All this attire makes communication at a nurse/patient - teacher/child level very difficult. Child not seeing all of the teachers face and nurse trying to obtain information from especially if there is a language difficulty. There being a religious reason for this yes but again as with all religions there are times when it is not required.

Religion has done a lot of good. I try to live by the religious principles that my mom and dad taught us in the Christian (Baptist & Lutheran) Churches we attended. However, after studying history I see that many many many people, including women, have been used abused and exploited and destroyed utilizing religious teachings, by aggressive greedy and takeover people. My suggestion is "Don't be a fool. Use the tools that God gave you . . . your brain."

    digger

I took your suggestion many years ago and came to the logical conclusion that even my brain wasn't God-given. Fairy tales are for children.
A moral compass and good judgment is what adults should adhere by.
    tabber

digger that is precisely my point. By saying 'use your brain' I am suggesting just what you said, activate our moral compass and good judgement, (which is carried on the railroad tracks of the brain). rather than accept whatever some highly decorated person preaches to you, without using any of your own thoughts or reflections.
    Poppy3

digger - how this seems about right to me - in the end it is about ethics and morality - I must say there are some of these teachings in the Bible, Torah Koran etc. and quite often some of the teachings are not there they are carried out by man. The confusing part to me is where the morality goes wrong from any which religion - or if not religion - is it the teachings of man - can it even be instinctive? If this makes sense?

The male dominated religions subjugate women and have only one god, whereas the Old religion is balanced by the presence of male/female deities. I prefer to live and worship within an atmosphere where all is balanced.

I do not get it , one, i do not like religion, but i do have a spiritual belief in Jesus the son of God,,Who also gave us the Bible, spiritually or physically or however,i do not care, and what does it do for women???,if you are Muslim,Chinese,Japanese,,maybe the part in the bible that say's "The woman was made from the rib of Adam,,to neither be above nor below.......Nuff said..>>><<<<<                 http://www.gotquestions.org/Adams-rib.html

I would dearly LOVE to read that part in the Bible that says: "The woman was made from the rib of Adam to neither be above nor below". I think if that were actually in print, some men might even believe it.
    terryfossil 1

Hi Duck, check out the bottom part of the link on my answer, let me know what you think.......
    terryfossil 1

Hi Duck.Genesis 2:18-24,,Genesis 2:23..kinda says it all.Eve is bone of bone and flesh of flesh of Adam,Adam was made of dust,Eve was made of Adam, and not of a toe below the ankle, and not of a hair above the eye,but of a rib beside the heart,Adam and Eve are 2 halves of a whole, making them one,how much more equal than that can you get,,and if you track down the translation of the word side,it becomes even more than one,,Eve is meant to enrich Adam.that is hardly belittling woman,,always nice talking Duck..>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<
    Ducky

    Moderator
That sounds good. What translation is that? Never once have I read those words in the Bible nor heard any "religious leader" quote those words, ever. And they wouldn't if they wanted to keep women "in their place". Makes us sound too equal. :)
    terryfossil 1

Duck, you are equal with man,the obvious part of equality,Adam and animals were made from dust,Woman was not made from dust,if she was created from dust, that would give her the same standing as the animals as they also were made from dust, but no,she was made from the original creation, from a rib on the left side where the heart is,,and here is an interesting thing, when man and woman are put back together to make a whole in wedlock, when the vow's are made, she stands on his left side, the missing rib side, therefore making him whole and they become one..equality ?? you betcha...that is how i understand the equality of man and woman according to the Bible..Always nice talking Duck..>>>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
    Ducky

    Moderator
I KNOW that I am equal, however, those verses do not in any way, speak of that equality. They don't even vaguely allude to equality.
    terryfossil 1

sorry you see it that way Duck, however it has been an interesting discussion,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    Some passages from the Qu'ran:

Sura 4:5 A male shall inherit twice as much as a female.......... Your wives shall inherit one quarter of your estate if you die childless.

If any of your women commit a lewd act , call in four witnesses from among yourselves against them: if they testify to their guilt confine them to their houses till death overtakes them or till God finds another way for them.

Sura 4:176 If a woman dies childless her brother shall be the sole heir.

Sura 4:34 Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because God has guarded them. As for those from whom your fear disobedience, admonish them. forsake them in beds apart and beat them.

    Enough?

    digger

NDP, I share your disdain for Islam but in fairness, let's not omit Christianity...or is that too close to home ?

    Women Shall Not Speak

“Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.” (I Corinthians 14:34-35)

    Women’s Sorrow

“Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.” (Genesis 3:16)

    Comment

Not only does the Woman get blamed for the Fall, but God decides to multiply her sorrow, plus, she must submit to her husband like a slave.

    Rip Up Pregnant Women

“Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.” (Hosea 13:16)

“Give me any plague, but the plague of the heart: and any wickedness, but the wickedness of a woman.” (Eccles. 25:13)

“Of the woman came the beginning of sin, and through her we all die.” (Eccles. 25:22)

    Wives, Submit Yourselves!

“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.” (Ephesians 5:22-24)

    Wife Like Slaves ?

    Stone The Woman!

“If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;” (Deuteronomy 22:22)

“Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour’s wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.” (Deuteronomy 22:24)

    Silence The Woman!

“Let the women learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.” (I Timothy 2:11-14)

    Cut Off Her Hand!

“When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets: then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity her.” (Deuteronomy 25:11-12)

    Female Births Get Penalty

“Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a woman have conceived seed, and born a man child: then she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of the separation for her infirmity shall she be unclean.” (Leviticus 12:2)

“But if she bear a maid child, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her separation: and she shall continue in the blood of her purifying threescore and six days.” (Leviticus 12:5)
wow What Great Double Standard !

    Raping And Killing

“Every one that is found shall be thrust through; and every one that is joined unto them shall fall by the sword. Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished.” (Isaiah 13:15-16)
    nomdeplume

Thanks for that digger, in fact I have total disdain for all religions, as all seem to be anti-woman. If anyone can suggest a religion in which men and women are treated equally please let me know.
    digger

Don't hold your breath, NDP. The theists have no come-back to your challenge. Yet, they will continue to follow along in shackles and chains...AND be offended at being labeled as such ! Go figure.

Religion is tied to politics and 'people-control' because it assumes that we are all so stupid and uneducated that we must be 'controlled' with fear-mongering and threat of demise but the fact of the matter is ... we're all gonna die! Maybe not today but someday....

The biblical allusion that woman [was supposedly] created from a man's rib and is therefore subservient, is one that was extracted by the patriarchal [and prehistoric] movement as a way to really 'hold your mother down!'

Sadly, a more scientific approach was not considered... like that of DNA manipulation! It stands to reason that if 'mankind' can manipulate DNA... then why not 'God[s]?

    Poppy3

lindilou - I have just read all the responses - so funny that Ducky - it would seem it is just about covered. Only I am not sure it was possible to test DNA - This scientific approach was somewhat if not a lot latter.
    lindilou

Hi Poopy3, I hope all is well with you!
Now, that DNA thing could be how 'God' created woman... perhaps DNA was taken from Adam's rib...then manipulated. I would not be surprised! ;)
    Poppy3

lindilou - interesting - a lot to contemplate - I do hope you are well too - I am doing my best here thank you so.

If a woman is under sharia law, not much.

    terryfossil 1

then she is obviously in the wrong belief....

Women have advantages that most men do not understand. Women are treated well in most cultures. Abuse of women brings covert revenge to men, generally... as an effective method of turf-war. And if a man is hostile, there are various forms of ingest-able toxins to influence behavior and side-line dealmaking that offers an unlimited range of options. Women can adjust their personal freedom and wealth over a much wider range than men by applying reasonable restraint and one-up-man ship in their choices. I found women's  stealth in managing their own lives and all those about them, so cunning and organized that I could see how men blind-side themselves and proclaim their ranking on the stupidity scale of unworthiness shocking and pathetically naive.

What has religion done for women?.....Have done to others as you would yourself. Thanks Mom.
