Red cabbage
1 Onion
3 Apples
salt, allspice and cloves...white or red wine apple cider vinegar, red currant jelly or jam (cherry jam can be used also)
Saute chpped onions in oil. Add sliced red cabbage. cook until softens. Add chopped apples, salt, allspice and cloves...continue cooking.
Add whiter or red wine vinegar and jelly. Simmer. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
Use sugar to taaste and thicken with cornstarch
Cooking time approx 2 to 3 hours for fresh cabbage.
I found this recipe in my recipe box. It was given to me by a woman from Berlin. None of the measurements are precise so you have to fool around with amounts... a splash of vinegar... a pinch of salt and so on. Taste as you go.
