Baby rabbits may be five weeks old when one wishes to separate them from their mother, but six to eight weeks is generally preferred.

as with most mammals, they require moms' milk, and when they are on solid food well, they can wean from the milk and live independently, that is usually 5 to 8 wks.  This depends on how well mom milked, and how many were in litter competing for that milk, and weather or not there was solid food available for them to begin on.  Taking them too early prevents them from converting the flora in their gut to organisms (colonies of bacteria and prozota) capable of digesting the forages in their diet.
