I assume, wishing they weren't homeless.

Homeless people get a bad rap at times. Most believe they are drunks or drug addicts.

Granted, they are out there, but more and more people are becoming homeless because of our nations economic troubles. Its going to get worse before it gets better too. SAD

Not today but I'm a Bills Fan. How 'bout dem Bills?

We have many homeless people living in bigger cities in New Hampshire. The Soup kitchens, usually theire only meal in day is hurting for donations. It is getting worse by the day and I am afraid some people will not make it through the winter.Food Pantries for the poor are also depleted and some poor elderly women was caught in the supermarket putting cans of cat food in her purse and told the people who caught her, that  the cat food was for herself to eat. It is absolutely heartbraking to see such things in our country. I dont believe it happens in any other civilized Nation.. I think most homeless people would like to live in a warm place, have a job and enough food to eat. That would be  luxory for them.

Ah-h-h a kindred spirit you are Ann!....(:

I know two homeless people and what do they think of themselves?? They think that they are first of all....happy to be alive, happy to not be mugged and happy to have people actually talk to them like they are human instead of the dregs of society. Homelessness is now rampant in the US and has been for quite awhile....there are homeless families out there also who must rely on soup kitchens and food pantries just to feed their children.....it is awful that people have to suffer like that in such a rich nation  as the US (I don't know about the UK and other areas)....I live in Chicago and see a lot of the misery that some people do not see who live in small cities and/or towns.

Ole hipster, I agree with everthing you said. I country as rich as the US, has no use for people who live on the streets and mostly through no fault of theire own. Its a heartless nation.

Thanks Ann for your comment....my computer is real slow (as am I at times!).....wish there were a better way to comment back to a comment besides doing it this way....when I walk away from Hal (my computer's name) and then come back...everything seems to have slipped away at times! But back to the point....the US should adopt some policies/habits from some eastern societies where not only do they have respect for their elders but for all of their people be they young, old, rich or poor.

I was homeless for two years. We made it though, we have a nice roof over out heads now and trying to make ends meet. I was never ashamed of being homeless, just made the best we could. We lived under a bridge and in the woods and it's all a great story...

"Why me does anybody care .I feel for them lost souls hope they get the help the need.

Dowsa, do you have homeless people in the UK?
    dowsa

Yes ANN but we have shelter housing I was refering to the USA .The ones in the UK people with drug problems and others just leave home seam to want to live that way no job does not come into it.

Homeless move into vacant houses quickly these days. The banks foreclosed on more than a million homes last year and have destroyed many of those structures rather than maintain or try to resell it. If I were on the streets these days I would be salvaging anything I could from foreclosed homes to sell or trade. I wouldn’t be homeless for long  or I would be in jail…either way it’s off the streets. That is the reality of the situation. If you are homeless you can’t get a job.

When I was homeless, I slept wherever and bought, stole and sold anything I could get my hands on. The progression from nothing up is a radical path of seeking out every opportunity that your conscious will allow if you choose to remain moral. I felt it was necessary to cut some corners on occasion but always landed in opportunities to set things straight. My bike was stolen and I had enough cash to buy something with wheels. Homeless requires a way to get around to expand your opportunities. Someone knew a guy with a few bikes… he was a drug dealer, said he got the bikes in trade and I bought one for $20.00. Was told the drug dealer got his drugs from a guy who had the biggest lab in California and we saw him go to the dealer to sell. I left on the bike and two days later was popped for riding a hot 10-speed. Went to jail and was interviewed by the district attorney who told me who he was by muffling his mouth while he said “District”. So I recognized the con and played along. Of course he advised I plead guilty for 6 months in the pokey . Then the next day my public defender came along and I told him about the mouth muffling DA , Drug dealer and his supplier. How did I plea, Not guilty and turned the heat up by requesting a sequestered jury, a psychiatric panel, medical review panel, release on my own recognizances, indigence status and my own attorney . The judge found a technical exit path to avoid the legal cost ( I had told the public defender that it was my intention to make my case the most expensive misdemenor case in legal history) The DA was investigated after my allegation and is still in jail for having done that 270 times requiring retrials and the drug dealer and supplier will likely get out before the DA does.

    Wow.
I am glad you wrote that down.
    Thanks.
I live in a part of Canada where 'the business' is a fact of life. Hearing your story puts an interesting side bar to what we read in the newspaper every single day.
I have worked in some very rough areas where I have actually had to fight for the shopping carts that belonged to the store I worked for...just taking the garbage out was an adventure in it's self. (Who is shooting up behind the store today?)...I have had to on occation, stand at the front door and hold it closed so that the person on the 'flight out of town' wasn't landing in our pad...We lost so much merchandise it wasn't even funny... we spent more time asking people to leave than selling to legitimate customers at times. It is interesting to read your point of view. I truly appreciate this.
The unfortuate thing is that homelessness and crime seem to co-exist. And honestly, if you work in a place where this is right outside the door it gets blurry, it's exhausting and it takes it's toll.
I watched this world from behind store windows. You have lived it.
...Once I let a guy with a knife walk away with what ever he wanted because he was high and I didn't think the merchandise was more important than my life.(My co-worker...who was 16 was working in the back of the store and I had no way of calling for help) The high guy thought this was hilarious. I don't see the humor at all.

Robert. Sen. McCain of Arizona was saying that in his state every second Home has been foreclosed or is beeing foreclosed.Imagine how many homeless people are in the state of Arizona and its not theire fault. Its greedy Banks and Wallstreet that have put people on the street.Even after World War II, people in Europe were put in DP camps and didnt have to live on the streets.
