    I remember specifically being taught about cognates in Spanish class. Words in different languages that sound close to each other and having the same meaning.  Now I can't think of a single example......

    Cognate have few meanings:
    - In linguistics: words that have common origin.
    - Related by blood, for instance: brothers are cognate.
    - Similar or related in qulity or character.
