Anyway, a kiss can be a greeting, a good-bye, a comfort, or a signal that one is looking for sexual intimacy.   It IS a show of affection. I love it, love it, love it, love it. etc. etc. etc.

 The USE of a kiss is to express affection and/or desire for another person using the lips, tongue, suction, and sometimes the teeth (gently).

It's a show of affection between two people.  It's fun to do as well.

Functionally it serves very little purpose other than showing love.  Like The Carpenters' song "What do you get when you kiss a guy.  You get enough germs to catch pneumonia...."
