The main difference is that 4-H is for all individuals age 9-19, while FFA is for those enrolled in agricultural instruction classes in high school. FFA members can continue on with active membership until the age of 23, though can not necessarily be active in all events.
While both organizations have agricultuaral aspects, FFA is predominantly centered around agricultural activities. In FFA, members are expected to have a Supervised Agricultural Experience Project, such as raising an animal or starting a small lawn-mowing business, and learn agricultural knowledge in at least one class. 4-H on the other hand deals with more than just agriculture. While 4H members may learn agricultural concepts and raise plants and animals for fairs and shows, there are plenty more activities that they can do, such as public speaking, computer science, baking, and citizenship.
Let me conclude by saying that the previous statement is not at all to undermine FFA. FFA is not all about showing and raising animals either. You can also participate in public speaking and debate events, community service activities and conferences. The difference is that in FFA, everything has some component of agricultural integrated into itself. In 4-H, not necessarily.
