You can have an 'air/air' heatpump which is easy to install but less effective, or a ground/air type which is much more expensive, or a type which extracts heat from the air and pumps it into the house to radiators or to pipes laid under the floor. This last is probably the best bet but is hardly practical unless you are building a new house.
