Your local NHS walk in center should be open or you should be able to access your local on call service by telephoning your surgery and listening to the recorded message for the number to call.
If you find out what Operating system (Vista,XP, Windows 7 etc) is running, you should be able to Google search for ways to bypass a password.

It depends what you need to do with the data, if you are wanting to copy it to a replacement machine then I would recommend a zip driver or external hard drive. However, if you just wish to clean up your current machine of a few photos and files, you may be better off to burn them to CD.
When you first unpack your iPad, you will need to connect it to your pc via the USB lead supplied. It will lead you through the installation of iTunes and then on to create an apple ID.
You will be able to register your device to your apple ID once it is created.
