Did the angels sing, “Glory to God in the Highest, Peace good will to men?”
Answers: 5 Views: 554 Rating: 0 Posted: 12 years ago
I’m proud of you sister Ginger. I couldn’t have said it better. The purpose of the question was to encourage us to look carefully at what the Scriptures say. Often people say the shepherds and wise men were in the stable together, there were three wise men, Eve ate and apple etc. - which the Bible does not say. PS Are you a sister in the Catholic Church or simply a sister-in-Christ?

Did the angels sing, “Glory to God in the Highest, Peace good will to men?”

Luke 2:13-14 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, • "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests." • Thayer’s dictionary gives a long definition for saying, but says nothing about singing

WHAT DOES BEING BORN OF WATER MEAN?
Answers: 6 Views: 1128 Rating: 1 Posted: 12 years ago
Nicodemus would have understood “born of water” to mean baptism because of the Jewish practice of baptism. John 3:5 (William Barclay p. 115) “Now this was not an idea which was in the least strange to the people who heard it in New Testament times. The Jew knew all about REBIRTH. When a proselyte came into Judaism, when a man from another faith became a Jew, when he had been accepted into Judaism, by prayer and sacrifice and BAPTISM he was regarded as being REBORN. “A proselyte who embraces Judaism,” said the rabbis, “is like a new - born child.” So radical was the change that the SINS he had committed before his reception were ALL DONE AWAY WITH, for now he was a different person. ...The GREEKS KNEW the idea of REBIRTH and knew it well.” (Pulpit Commentary pp. 112, 115) “...it may be PROVEN that the rabbis regarded proselytes as a “NEW BIRTH,” and one produced or BROUGHT ABOUT BY circumcision and BAPTISM.” (Adam Clarke p. 531) “Of water and the Spirit. To the BAPTISM OF WATER a man was admitted when he became a proselyte to the Jewish religion; and, in this BAPTISM, he promised in the most solemn manner to renounce idolatry, to take the god of Israel for his God, and to have his life conformed to the precepts of the Divine law.”

WHY ARE PEOPLE TO BE BAPTIZED?
Answers: 7 Views: 923 Rating: 0 Posted: 12 years ago
WHITCH BAPTISM PASSAGES ARE WATER BAPTISM? Baptized in the name of the Lord is baptism in water Baptized in name of Lord is water baptism because Acts. 8:16, Acts 10:47, 48; Acts 19:5; Mt 28:19 say so. And we are never commanded to be Holy Spirit baptized. Holy Spirit baptism is never said to be in the name of the Lord. Acts 8:12 same context as Acts 8:16 therefore water baptism Acts 8:38 says water baptism Acts 10:48 baptized in name of Lord therefore water baptism and Acts 10:47 says water Acts 19:5 baptized in name of Lord therefore water baptism and Acts 19:5 shows that the Holy Spirit came AFTER THE baptism Mt 28:19 baptized in name of Lord therefore water baptism Rom. 6:1-6 this baptism must be water baptism because the Holy Spirit had not yet come see Acts 19:5 and Rom 1:11 Jn 3:5 is water baptism because water is mentioned. (Further proof is available) Acts 2:38 is water baptism because it is in the name of Jesus Acts 2:41 is water baptism because it is in the same context as Acts. 2:38 Acts 9:18, 22:16 are water because you don’t have to get up to get Holy Spirit baptized (Acts 22:16 Get up, be baptized; Acts 2:2 they were sitting) Matt 3:11 I baptize you with water. John’s baptisms were in water John 4:1 “Jesus was gaining and baptizing more disciples than John”. Since they are being compared they must be the same type baptism. Jesus’ disciples baptized more people in water than John.

WHY ARE PEOPLE TO BE BAPTIZED?

WAS THE THIEF ON THE CROSS SAVED WITHOUT BAPTISM? I have three observations FIRST: the likelihood IS that the thief WAS baptized. The Scriptures say… Mk 1:5 “All of Jerusalem & Judea” were baptized Mt 3:5, 6 “All around Jordan (Five provinces) were baptized” Lk 3:7 “Multitudes” were baptized Jn 4:1 “Jesus baptized more than John” The likelihood was that the thief was baptized, fell away and repented on the cross. Or was convicted for an earlier crime after he was baptized as Ben Laden paid for his crime 10 years after committing it. SECOND: The thief lived under a different religious system than we. He died before the New Testament was established. Col 2:14-15 KJV “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross...” When Christ died on the cross He did away with the Old Testament method of receiving forgiveness. Heb 9:15-17 KJV “And for this cause He is the mediator of the new testament... FOR WHERE A TESTAMENT IS, THERE MUST ALSO OF NECESSITY BE THE DEATH OF THE TESTATOR. FOR A TESTAMENT IS OF FORCE AFTER MEN ARE DEAD: OTHERWISE IT IS OF NO STRENGTH AT ALL WHILE THE TESTATOR LIVETH.” The thief on the cross lived and received his promise under the First Testament. The second Testament and its method of forgiveness was established AT Jesus’ death. Third: Let’s go back to the top. What did God say the one baptism (Eph 4:5) was for? It saves, it produces redemption of sins, it is where sins are washed away, etc, etc. There is no passage in the Bible that orders people to be baptized in the Holy spirit.

WHY ARE PEOPLE TO BE BAPTIZED?

Randy, It seems to me that there is some type standard to help us understand communication. If we can interpret what others say any way we want then there is no limit to the conclusions we draw. Words have a meaning. Words are defined by the way they are used. If we decide to interpret green for red or go for stop we are likely to have difficulty traveling through town. Why would anyone want to place his own (interpretation) on words God said? God did not say that baptism is an outward sign of an inward grace. But he said we are saved at the point of baptism.
