The Skindiver Nautique measures 38mm wide, 12.2 mm thick, and 44.5mm lug to lug. It's a bit smaller (in every dimension) than something like a Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight and roughly the same width and thickness as a link Timex Q. Available in two versions, link Vulcain is offering the Nautique in either a matte black dial or a brushed blue dial. Both versions come with faux-aged lume, no date, 200 meters of water resistance, a link sapphire crystal, and a solid steel caseback.

For a link watchmaker who values the distinction between watch finishing and watch making, the finishing is still fantastic. Pikullik tried to use every possible skill of finishing on the watch. The exterior steel chapter ring is black link polished. The dial is frosted, beveled, and polished with a polished interior angle around the moonphase "ball" which is also link frosted. The gears, hands, and even the pinions have been beautifully hand-finished.

Focusing in on the watch for a moment, there's been some kerfuffle as to what reference GMT-Master Magnum wore. For years, word link on the street was a 1675 – the classic matte dial link variant produced from 1959 to 1980. With a bit of investigation and some direction on where to look, we can say with confidence that it was in fact a reference 16750. This was the successor model to the 1675, produced from link 1980 to 1988 – matching the series' run to the very year. Coincidence? (Well, probably).

However, more importantly, with this model completed by the brilliant link watchmaker Ludwig Oechslin, the manufacturer demonstrated that a watch could tell time without link resorting link to the sacrosanct watchmaking trinity: crown, hands, and dial.

But it's also just a killer watch, and inarguably one of the best executions of steel and gold made by any brand. I just wrote about Tudor's new link Root link Beer GMT over the weekend and touched on how it takes much of its design from this very watch. Released in 2018, this particular Rolex captures the essence of two-tone because it's link paired with a bi-color bezel in complimentary black and brown (hence the soda-centric nickname).

The 114270 had a near-decade-long run, its subtle improvements over the 14270 having seemingly been enough to make Rolex see fit to leave the Explorer be for a while, though there link was the addition of an engraved rehaut late in the production of this model. But after about 21 years of extremely consistent Explorer design, and link 57 years link of rigid adherence to the 36mm case size, things were about to change. Big time.

I love these watches. It was one of the first link stopwatches I was really enchanted by when I first got started with vintage watches. It's very cool to see a large link sans serif engraving on the back that's austere but very beautiful at the same time. They were probably link issued to gym teachers across New York City.
