The notable exception is a Film Compax that sold at Phillips Start-Stop-Reset auction for CHF 68,750 in 2016. All kinds of crazy things happened at that sale – it was headlined by a $2.5 million Rolex split, for example – so this isn't really indicative of what we should expect this week.
The alternating polished and satin-finished surfaces of the casing enhance the visual harmony of link these timepieces. While some of the game’s professional ankle-flashers and wrist-dazzlers embraced the moment with arms wide open (and colorful plumage), others came in off-book and worked the venues with existential vigor. Montblanc’s ex-MD Davide Cerrato, newly crowned boss of the defibrillated HYT, was among the non-exhibitors plugged into the lifeline the event provides. It was in this context that the Black Bay Fifty-Eight Silver arrived on the scene and caught Kim's attention. The fact that there wasn't a ton of hype about it was interesting, and he loved that it came from a quality maker. He walked into a shop, saw it in the window, and was able to buy it on the spot, a refreshing quality in 2021. But after about 21 years of extremely consistent Explorer design, and link 57 years link of rigid adherence to the 36mm case size, things were about to change. Big time.
