1.
* 1
Turn off the main circuit for the room in which you are wiring the combination switch and outlet on the circuit panel.
* 2
Remove the existing switch from the wall by first removing the plate cover with the screwdriver. The screws that are used to secure the switch to the electrical box can then be removed.
* 3
Pull out the switch from the electrical outlet and remove the wiring from the switch. There will be a spliced neutral white wire, a black hot wire and a green ground wire.
* 4
Attach the copper ground wire to the ground screw on the new electrical outlet. Loosen the ground screw with the screwdriver and hook the ground wire around the screws. Re-tighten the screws to secure the ground wire.
* 5
Attach the black hot wire from the main power to the brass screw on the combination switch and outlet with the screwdriver.
* 6
Attach the black wire for the light or appliance, to be turned on and off with the switch, to one of the screw terminals on the opposite side of the combination outlet and switch receptacle.
* 7
Attach the spliced neutral white wire to the silver screw on the combination switch and outlet.
* 8
Place the combination switch and outlet back into the electrical box and secure it by using the screws.
* 9
Turn on the power to the room at the circuit panel and then turn the switch on to see if it is working correctly.
