      Tests are done on existing conditions, not something that possibly happened in the past.

        Not always; there are many infections whose past presence can be detected by antibody tests. This is true for chlamydia. Chlamydia infections can block the fallopian tubes of females, causing infertility, and at least one study of men has shown a correlation between past or present chlamydial infection and infertility.
