Indian Fire is a lay term for impetigo, an infection of the epidermis (outer layer of the skin) that is usually highly contagious. Often a staph infection, it can be caused by scratching a mosquito bite or getting an abrasion from a fall, creating a pathway for the germ to enter the skin.
