I'm not sure if the terms are the same. Bird in England I believe is more of a sexist term (like the old American term, dame) where Sheila is more of an endearing term. I could be wrong however.

The term bird became popular here too during the British POP invasion.(1960s).& No it wasn't popular with the shielas.I don't know what we did to make them feel that way Col.But remember we are a country of immigrants from every country in the world & i think this is where the objections may have started.
