Agree with Daren "replace it with a new habit".
Suggestion the old rubber band on the wrist works if you want it too. Wear a band and if your habit is farting in public (PHEW you didn`t have to prove me right) when you feel the urge snap the band. Don`t snap it too hard you might frighten shit out of yourself and you can hardly pretend that it wasn`t you.
In all seriousness some pyhsical action will help break the habit,
